John Borrajo - Senior Vet and Partner

John fulfilled his childhood ambition by qualifying as a vet from Liverpool in 1980 and he gained his certificate in radiology in 1989. He joined Mike Hayes in Leicester in 1987 and became a partner in 1991. He is keen on all aspects of small animal work, but special interests are radiography, ultrasound and surgery.

Outside work he has four children and attends a local church. Recreational pastimes include road cycling, camping, canoeing and kayaking.

Saadiya - Vet

Saadiya Mangera graduated from the University of Pretonia, South Africa in June 2000. She is married to Muhammed Mather, a PE teacher also from South Africa. They have recently had a baby girl named Salma.

Saadiya and Muhammed have a Border Terrier named Make (named after Mkhaya Ntini, the South Africa cricketer), a three legged cat named Ché (as in Ché Guavera) and a tabby cat called Shona.

Saadiya has a special interest in small animal internal medicine. She believes that client education is the first step to having healthy pets.

Charlotte - Vet

Charlotte graduated from Cambridge vet school in 2006. Her first job was in a busy small animal hospital and referral centre in Cheshire, where she stayed for a year. In July 2007 she married equine surgeon Greg Quinn and after a honeymoon walking the Inca Trail she joined us at Borrajo's.

Charlotte's veterinary interests include internal medicine and she holds an MA in Pathology as well as her veterinary degree. She is involved in some in-house nurse training and is working at starting puppy parties.

Outside of work Charlotte likes to keep active. She recently joined Charnwood Triathlon Club and complete her first competitive triathlon. She is involved in setting up a junior section and hopes to find time to run a marathon before the end of the year. Charlotte enjoys mountain biking, hiking and travelling when ever she has the time!

Johnny - Vet

Johnny graduated from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2005. After spending one year in the Greek Military Forces he joined the Borrajo's team in April 2007. Johnny's main areas of interest are small animal soft tissue and orthapaedic surgery and neurology. He is currently studying towards a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (Small Animals).

He has a passion for travelling and different cultures, his dream is to travel all over the world. He also enjoys learning foreign languages, Salsa and looking after his very demanding cat Phoebe!

Carianne - RVN and Head Nurse

Carrianne is a registered Veterinary Nurse. She first joined the practice in September 1995 and qualified in January 2003.

She is one of Two head nurses at the Birstall surgery. Her roles and responsibilities include carrying out minor surgical procedures, taking radiographs, taking blood samples, placing intravenous catheters, carrying out urine analysis and the general day to day joint leadership of the nursing team at Birstall.She also runs nursing clinics, including weight watchers, dental and geriatric - fit for life clinics.

Her hobbies and interests outside of work include looking after her own pets (3 cats and a dog), watching Rugby and socialising with her friends.

Louise - RVN and Head Nurse

Hello, my name is Louise and I'm one of two head nurses here at Birstall. I do nurse clinics, anaesthetics, x-rays, minor surgical procedures, food and drug ordering as well as working at reception and in other areas. Birstall is a training practice so we do a lot of nurse training, I am the assessor here which means doing a lot of in house training and portfolio work.

When I am not at work my interests are my animals, keeping fit and swimming. I also compete in agility with my border collies!

Clare - Student Veterinary Nurse

Hi my name is Clare, I have been working at Borrajo's for 3 years. I am currently a student nurse, doing my two year training at college to become a qualified nurse. This involves me completing an in-practice portfolio with which Louise helps me and assesses me.

My role at work includes; dealing with the pet insurance forms, along with duties such as assisting with anaesthetics, taking blood samples, reception duties and the general nursing of patients.

I have two cats, one is called Jessie - a naughty tortie and the other is Teddy who is slightly brain damaged. we also have a staffy cross called Flyer.

In my spare time I enjoy horse riding, socialising with my friends and shopping.

Rachael - Veterinary Nursing Assistant

My name is Rachael and I have been at Borrajo's since January 2007. I enjoy my job and it is very rewarding. I am looking forward to starting college and studying to become a qualified nurse. I am currently doing Key Skills in preparation for college this year. I have three cats and a bird of my own. Outside of work I enjoy reading and going out.

Rachel - Veterinary Nursing Assistant

My name is Rachel but everyone calls me Pink because I like everything pink.

I am 21 and have been working as a Veterinary Nursing Assistant since January 08. I have always wanted to work with animals and my favourite animals are dogs and rabbits.

My job as a Veterinary Nursing Assistant includes working with the vets, monitoring anaesthetics, preparing animals for the theatre and also covering a lot of the work on reception.

Out of work I do dance classes and spend time with my friends and family.

Kelly - Veterinary Nursing Assistant

My name is Kelly and I have been a trainee veterinary nurse at Borrajo's since June 07, after starting off at Brooksby Agricultural College.

I enjoy my job and I am looking forward to eventually going to nurse's college. i get many rewards from my job, it is very rewarding to see an unwell animal return to it's owner happy and healthy. I also do a lot of pet sitting for the clients here.

I have a cat, hamster and gecko of my own. Outside of work I enjoy kickboxing and travelling. Through my work as a veterinary nurse I hope to one day work in Africa with wild animals.

Chelsea - Veterinary Nursing Assistant

Hi, my name is Chelsea and I am a trainee veterinary nurse. I have been at Borrajo's Veterinary Clinic in Birstall since January 2008. I thoroughly enjoy my job and love being a part of a team here at Birstall. As I am still training, my jobs consist of a bit of everything, but I most enjoy assisting the vets during operations. I am looking forward to starting college and studying to become a qualified nurse. In my spare time I ride my horse and like to socialise.

Lorraine - Receptionist

Lorraine has worked at the Birstall Clinic for 9 years. She is our receptionist and her responsibilities include; greeting clients, making appointments and answering the phone.

Her hobbies are, going to shows with her dog and riding her horse.
